OM System has announced the OM-5 Mark II, the latest version of its compact mirrorless camera, aimed at outdoor users seeking a lightweight, travel-ready photography tool.
The OM-5 Mark II retains the familiar look of its predecessor, the OM-5, and the EM-5 Mark III. However, it introduces a slightly enlarged grip and upgrades the outdated microUSB to a USB-C port. A tally lamp has also been added.
The top of the camera now includes a configurable "CP" button, designed for faster access to computational photography modes such as Handheld High-Res, Tripod High-Res, Live ND (ND2-ND16), Focus Stacking, HDR, and multiple exposure functions. The new interface improves efficiency for users engaging with in-camera digital enhancements.
Inside, the menu system aligns with the company’s newer OM-1 Mark II and OM-3 cameras. Support for OM-Cinema video profiles has also been integrated.
The OM-5 Mark II continues using the 20.37-megapixel Live MOS sensor and TruePic IX processor, paired with a 121-point all cross-type phase detection autofocus system. The five-axis image stabilization remains, delivering 7.5 stops centrally and 6.5 at the edges.
OM System has adjusted the burst shooting capabilities. The mechanical shutter now tops out at six frames per second with continuous autofocus, removing the previous fixed AF burst mode. Users needing fixed AF with high speed are directed to the Silent Sequential H mode.
The company says the changes are meant to simplify the sequential shooting options and reduce operational confusion.
The camera maintains its IP53 rating for splash and dust resistance, a rare certification among mirrorless systems.
OM System offers the OM Image Share app for wireless transfer and camera settings management, along with OM Workspace software for RAW processing on desktop. The latter includes AI Noise Reduction and advanced editing tools.
The OM-5 Mark II launches in early July in three colors: black, silver, and a limited sand beige edition. The body-only price is set at $1,199.99. Bundled options include a $1,599.99 kit with the 12-45mm f/4 PRO lens and a $1,499.99 kit with the 14-150mm f/4-5.6 II lens. The beige edition is sold body-only.
